Amazon Buys eero For Smart Home Connectivity

DATE POSTED:February 12, 2019

Amazon announced the acquisition of eero, the first mesh home WiFi system.

Founded in San Francisco in 2014, eero’s systems blanket every room of a customer’s home using high-performing, reliable WiFi. For example, the eero WiFi System (1 eero + 2 eero Beacon), which retails for around $362 on Amazon, is designed to replace the traditional WiFi router, WiFi connection extender, and Internet booster in a two to four bedroom home.

The products are already a hit with Amazon customers, who have given the company a 4.6-star product rating on the eCommere giant’s platform.

“We are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a mesh WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work,” Dave Limp, SVP of Amazon Devices and Services, said in a press release. “We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

Customers can customize an eero system to meet the needs of their home, eliminating dead zones and guaranteeing perfect streaming video in every room. Through eero’s app, customers can set up the system in under 10 minutes, share their network, program parental controls, and run connection speed tests on demand. And since eero communicates with the cloud, its systems are constantly self-updating, self-fixing, and self-improving.

“From the beginning, eero’s mission has been to make the technology in homes just work,” said Nick Weaver, Co-Founder and CEO of eero. “We started with WiFi because it’s the foundation of the modern home. Every customer deserves reliable and secure WiFi in every room. By joining the Amazon family, we’re excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring eero systems to more customers around the globe.”

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions.
